Whenever you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that specific company. On their end, 3 records are created automatically right after the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain address where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that deals with the emails for that specific Internet domain. The website and the e-mail hosting are often thought to be one thing, while they're in reality two different services. Having different records for them will allow you to have them with different companies if you want. As an example, some new service provider might have superb uptime for your site, but you might not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain address to the first and MX records to have the emails with the second, you can get the best of both providers. These records are checked whenever you want to open a site or send an e-mail - in any case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain name will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you are going to see the needed site or your e-mail will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a Linux cloud website hosting service through us, you are going to be able to see, set up and modify any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Assuming that a given domain name has our Name Servers, you are going to be able to to modify specific records using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your site or emails directed to another service provider if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will allow you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name at all. If you choose to use the email services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with just a couple of clicks within the DNS Records section of your CP. You may also set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our Linux semi-dedicated servers, will allow you to view the A and MX records for any of the domain names or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to edit any of them or create new ones. Managing these records is quite easy as all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and if you experience any issues, you can check out our educational videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to give you full control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're pointing your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
